The European University Association (EUA) is the collective voice of the universities of Europe, institutions that have shaped our world for a millennium. For over two decades, EUA has played a key role in building university communities across the whole of Europe and creating a coherent system for European higher education and research. EUA is a community of over 900 members and affiliates. It represents universities and national rectors’ conferences in 48 European countries, as well as affiliated organisations and networks based both in and beyond Europe.
In a joint statement, research and higher education organisations call on European leaders to preserve the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) as a research programme in the 2028-2034 Horizon Europe programme
On 26 June, EU member states agreed to the Council of the EU's negotiating position, or ‘partial general approach’, on the legislative proposals for the next Horizon Europe programme (2028-2034)
The Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the EU has published a proposal regarding member states’ position on the EU’s next long-term budget, including the next Horizon Europe and Erasmus+ programmes
The next Erasmus+ programme must be equipped with the budget, governance and predictability needed to continue delivering for learners, staff, institutions and society
The European Commission has recently withdrawn a proposal for a directive on European cross-border associations
In a joint statement, the European University Association and fellow R&I stakeholders call on EU member states to work towards coherent, ambitious and operational positions on Horizon Europe and the European Competitiveness Fund (ECF)
Deadline: 03 Jul 2026 The call for participation in the 2027 edition of the European University Association’s Leadership Development Programme is now open
Deadline: 10 Jul 2026 The European University Association is seeking expressions of interest in pilot-testing an online tool that allows staff of higher education institutions to self-evaluate their institution’s readiness to implement automatic credit recognition
Overly permissive use of artificial intelligence in higher education risks rewarding polished outputs over deep understanding and placing too much of a burden on students. Instead, universities must lead with pedagogical design that aligns learning, assessment and meaningful use of AI tools.
For Àngels Fitó, placing people back at the centre of universities' transformation agendas is not a rhetorical choice, but a strategic one, as diversity-aware leadership fosters decisions anchored in inclusion, responsibility and long-term institutional sustainability.
To achieve EUA’s vision of ‘Strong universities for Europe’, we support our members to excel in the service of society
EUA counts universities from across Europe, as well as national rectors’ conferences and national university associations, among our members.
EUA is governed by a Board, Council and General Assembly, supported by a Secretariat, and guided by a variety of working groups and committees.
